English listeners, 'descriptive' berasal dari kata 'describe' yang bermakna menggambar, tapi ingat menggambar disini bukan dalam terminologi 'draw' yang dalam bahasa Indonesia kebetulan juga dimaknai menggambar.
Disini terdapat perbedaan diantara 'describe' dan 'draw'. Dalam pembahasan kita kali ini 'draw' bermakna menggambar, yakni menggambar diatas kertas atau media lain, dengan menggunakan garis dan kurva, lalu kemudian diwarnai. Contoh gambar yang masuk kategori 'draw' ini misalnya: gambar, lukisan, mural, dan lain sebagainya.
Sedangkan disisi lain, 'describe' juga bermakna menggambar, akan tetapi disini kita tidak menggambarnya dengan berbentuk 'gambar', melainkan kita akan menggambarkannya dengan kata-kata. sehingga hasil gambarannya nanti berbentuk kalimat atau paragraf.
Lihatlah dengan seksama contoh berikut!
Jika di'describe' (digambar dengan kata-kata) maka akan berbunyi : 'Ada dua buah apel diatas sebuah piring putih yang berbentuk lingkaran. Satu apel berwarna merah kekuning-kuningan dan yang satunya lagi berwarna hijau. Kedua apel itu berukuran sama. Apel yang berwarna hijau sedikit masih ada tangkainya."
Maka dengan semuanya itu, bisa kita simpulkan bersama bahwa 'descriptive text' adalah sebuah teks atau naskah tulisan yang berisi penggambaran sebuah obyek, baik berupa manusia, binatang ataupun benda-benda lainnya.
Selanjutnya, naskah descriptive ini tersusun dari 2 bagian yang disebut:
Identification: bagian yang berfungsi untuk mengidentifikasi obyek yang akan digambarkan.
Description: bagian yang berfungsi menggambarkan obyek secara lebih detail, lebih lengkap dan menyeluruh. Sehingga pendengar/pembaca naskah menangkap secara utuh obyek yang sedang digambarkan (didescripsikan)

"My Lovely Rabbit"
My name is Santi. I have a pet at home. It is blanco. Blanco is 2 years old female rabbit. She is very cute.
She has white fur. Her fur is so soft and clean. I always give her milk. She likes milk so much. Every afternoon and evening, she eats carrots. She is an active animal. She likes jumping around the house and yard. She sometimes plays with me at the front yard of my house. When she feels tired, she sleeps in the cage. I love her so much.

"CR7" His name is Cristiano Ronaldo. We can call him as Ronaldo. But, Madridista (Real Madrid's fans) often calls him CR7. CR is the abreaviation of Cristiano Ronaldo, and 7 is his shirt number when playing for both Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Ronaldo was born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal on 5 February 1985. His father's name is Jose Dinis Aveiro. His mother's name is Maria Dolores Dos Santos Aveiro. He has one brother, Hugo, and two sisters, Elma and Liliana Catia.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a famous footballer. He is from Portugal, a country in Europe. Before playing for Real Madrid, he has played for Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United.
People knows Cristiano Ronaldo is a good football player. He can run fast and dribble well. As a striker, he becomes a goal getter for Manchester United and Real Madrid along his career. He can get more than 30 goals every season.

Muhammad Tulus Rusydi was born in Bukit Tinggi, Sumatra Barat, August 20th, 1987. He is 27 years old. He is a singer and song writer from Indonesia. Besides, he is also an architect who graduated from Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung. He started his career by singing at several jazz music community and campus events in Bandung. During his study at university, Tulus had ever joined in Sikuai Band.
His first album was handled by a producer named Ari Renaldi. It was distributed by Demajors and released by his own recording company, Tulus Record, in September 2011. His songs, Sewindu, Teman Hidup, Kisah Sebentar, Tuan Nona Kesepian, dan Jatuh Cinta, became on the top of chart in all radios throughout Indonesia. Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine honoured Tulus as Editor’s Choice: Rookie of the Year in 2013. His first album had also been in the first rank of Rolling Stone chart in January and February, 2012.
Contoh 4 "My Favorite Bag" I like something mostly because of it is simple. The same reason makes me love this backpack. It is not only simple because we can put the bag on my back, but also because it has a wide space in it that I can almost bring anything I need with only one bag. I bought this bag myself five years ago, and it is still usable until now. Its durability is unquestionable.
The colour of my favorite bag is black. It is made of thick cotton. The backpack is divided into three pouch, the big pouch, the average pouch, and the small pouch. Each of it has its own zipper. The small pouch is a little bit different from the other, because it is covered by rubber. The small pouch is where I usually keep my flash drive, car's key, and pen. I will tell you a secret, if you saw my bag from the front side, you will only see two pouch, it is because the big pouch is not accessible from the front side, the zipper is hidden on the back side of the bag and it can only be accessed if I take off the bag from my back, it is very tricky, right? I decorated my bag with fake ant and fake spider by sticking them on it.
